Digital Globe Inc and GeoEye Inc surged after U.S. intelligence agency awarded contracts worth $7.3 billion. Hewlett Packard dropped after it ousted its chief executive. Amedisys, Inc. ((AMED)) gained 8.9% or $2.40 to $29.26 after the provider of home health care and hospice services stated second quarter net service revenue increased 11.8% to $422.35 million from $377.89 million in the previous year. Net income in the quarter declined 8.2% to $32.20 million or $1.13 per share from $35.08 million or $1.27 per share in the previous year.
Berkshire Hathaway Inc dropped a fraction after second quarter profits declined 40% on a lower valuation of its credit derivative contract assets.
Clinical Data Inc. ((CLDA)) fell 0.2% or 4 cent $14.13 after the biotechnology company said first-quarter net revenue soared 48.6% to $5.5 million compared to $3.7 million a year ago. Net loss in the quarter narrowed 9.7% to $13.92 million or 51 cents per share, compared to a loss of $15.41 million or 67 cents per share in the year-ago quarter.
China Electric Motor, Inc ((CELM)) surged 6.1% or 30 cent to $5.18 after the micro-motors maker reported second quarter total revenue increased 13.3% to $25.3 million from $22.3 million in the year-ago quarter. Net income in the quarter surged 93.2% to $41.17 million or 20 cent per share compared to $21.31 million or 18 cent per share in the year ago quarter.
DISH Network Corporation ((DISH)) dropped 8.4% or $1.77 to $19.07 after a pay-television provider reported second-quarter total revenue rose 9.1% to $3.17 billion from $2.90 billion in the year-ago quarter. Net income in the quarter surged 307% to $257 million or 57 cents a share from $63 million or 14 cents a share a year earlier.
DigitalGlobe Inc ((DGI)) increased 12.7% or $3.54 to $31.26 after it won $3.5 billion of contract from the U.S. intelligence agency. GeoEye Inc ((GEOY)) also soared 13.8% or $4.46 to $36.66 after it was awarded a contract for $3.8 billion.
Hewlett-Packard Company ((HPQ)) fell 7.8% or $3.6 to $42.68 after the company ousted its chief executive officer Mark Hurd and settled sexual harassment charges with a contractor.
Northern Oil & Gas, Inc ((NOG)) rose or 48 cent to $15.38 after the energy company reported second-quarter total revenue increased 613% to $16.23 million compared to $2.27 million in the year-ago quarter. Net income in the quarter gained $6.12 or 12 cent a share from $0.42 million or 1 cent a share a year earlier.
Skilled Healthcare Group Inc ((SKH)) surged 44.1% or $1.10 to $3.59.
Superior Well Services Inc ((SWSI)) increased 20.7% or $3.77 to $22.00 after the wellsite solutions provider reported second quarter total revenue increased 42.7% to $176.0 million from $123.3 million in the year-ago quarter. Net income in the quarter rose 116% to $ 6.1 million, or $0.18 per diluted share compared to a net loss of $37.9 million or a $1.66 net loss per diluted share in the same quarter of 2009.
Tyson Foods, Inc ((TSN)) declined 3.4% or 59 cent to $16.55 after the meat protein and food production company said its third-quarter sales edged higher 11.7% to $7.44 billion from $6.66 billion in the prior-year quarter. Net income in the quarter surged 89.3% to $248 million or 65 cents per share from $131 million or 35 cents per share in the same quarter last year.
WellCare Health Plans, Inc., the provider of Medicare and Medicaid managed care health plans reported second quarter total revenues slumped 25.1% to $1.34 billion from $1.79 billion in the previous year. Net loss in the quarter was $128.87 million or $3.05 per share compared to a profit of $37.01 million or 88 cents per share a year ago.
