    American Italian Pasta Company led gainers in the S&P 500 index with a rise of 6.7%. Lockheed wins again $5 billion U.S. contract. Jefferies profit up 37%. Commercial Metals narrows quarterly loss. Toyota suffers another supplier labor strike.

Patriot Coal Corporation led the decliners in the S&P 500 index with a loss of 7.7% followed by losses in Walgreen Co. of 5.9% and in Alpine Total Dynamic Dividend Fund of 4.9%, in Bridgepoint Education, Inc. of 4.6% and in Brunswick Corporation of 4.5%.

American Italian Pasta Company led gainers in the S&P 500 index with a rise of 6.7% followed by gains in Ctrip.com International Ltd. of 0.09%, in of 0.3% and in Jefferies Group, Inc. of 1.0%.

Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, Inc. ((ALNY)), the drug company added 2.1% or 33 cents to $15.45.

Caterpillar Inc. ((CAT)), the maker of construction equipment rose 1.0% or 70 cents to $66.77.

Carnival Corporation ((CCL)) fell 2.4% or 85 cents to $33.89. The cruise line company reported second quarter revenues rose 8.5% to $3.20 billion from $2.95 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 4.5% to $252.0 million or 32 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $264.0 million or 33 cents per share a year ago.

Commercial Metals Company ((CMC)) added 0.1% or 2 cents to $15.71 after the steel and metal products manufacturer reported third quarter sales rose 40.5% to $1.77 billion from $1.26 billion a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $8.8 million or 8 cents per diluted share compared to net loss of $13.1 million or 12 cents per share a year ago.

Ennis, Inc. ((EBF)) added 1.9% or 32 cents to $16.49 after the activewear apparel maker reported first quarter revenues rose 7.6% to $140.7 million from $130.8 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 97% to $13.0 million or 50 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $6.6 million or 26 cents per share a year ago.

Extreme Networks, Inc. ((EXTR)) added 4.5% or 13 cents to $2.99 after the maker of computer-network switches today announced that the Austrian Ministry of the Interior has selected its high performance data center, edge and aggregation network solutions to migrate the local networks and data centers of the security administration department for eight federal states and for the capital, Vienna.

Jefferies Group, Inc. ((JEF)) advanced 2.7% or $1.13 to $23.90 after the securities and investment banking firm reported second quarter revenues rose 13.4% to $669.5 million from $590.2 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 37% to $84.8 million or 41 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $62.0 million or 30 cents per share a year ago.

Lincare Holdings Inc. ((LNCR)) added 1.3% or 42 cents to $31.18 after the provider of oxygen services for patients announced today that its Board of Directors has approved the initiation of a quarterly cash dividend payable at an annual rate of $0.80 per share of common stock outstanding.

Lockheed Marin Corporation ((LMT)) advanced 0.8% or 65 cents to $80.72 after the defense contractor announced today that it has successfully completed a key requirements review for the Global Positioning System (GPS) IIIB satellite series under the U.S. Air Force''s next generation GPS III Space Segment program.

PetSmart, Inc. ((PETM)) rose 0.5% or 18 cents to $31.86 after the pet-store chain announced the Board of Directors'' approval to increase its quarterly dividend by 25% from $0.10 to $0.125 per share beginning in the second quarter of fiscal 2010.

Patriot Coal Corporation ((PCX)), the coal company dropped 7.0% or $1.14 to $15.06.

Royal Gold, Inc. ((RGLD)) fell 1.9% or $1.06 to $52.29 after the precious metals royalty company said it plans to offer 6.5 million shares.

Somanetics Corporation ((SMTS)) rose 0.08% or 2 cents to $24.93 after the cerebral/somatic oximeter maker said second quarter revenues rose 18% to $13.9 million from $11.8 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 16.7% to $1.5 million or 12 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $1.8 million or 14 cents per share a year ago.

Sonic Corp. ((SONC)) fell 3.0% or 28 cents to $9.01 after the fast food restaurant chain said third quarter revenues fell 19.4% to $146.0 million from $181.1 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 34.5% to $11.0 million or 18 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $16.8 million or 27 cents per share a year ago.

Steelcase Inc. ((SCS)) fell 2.4% or 19 cents to $7.45 after the office furniture maker said first quarter revenues fell 0.7% to $541.8 million from $545.6 million a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $11.1 million or 8 cents per diluted share compared to net loss of $0.0 million or break even per share a year ago.

Transocean Ltd. ((RIG)) fell 2.5% or $1.35 to $52.56.

Walgreen Co. ((WAG)) fell 6.3% or $1.92 to $28.17 after the drugstore chain posted third quarter sales up 6.1% to record $17.2 billion.
