Of the stocks in S&P 500 index, 392 increased, 98 declined and 10 were unchanged.

Intuitive Surgical, Inc. led the decliners in the S&P 500 index with a loss of 2.7% followed by losses in Akamai Technologies, Inc. of 2.2% and in Anadarko Petroleum Corporation of 1.8%, in Apollo Group, Inc. of 1.7% and in Newmont Mining Corporation of 1.5%.

SanDisk Corporation led gainers in the S&P 500 index with a rise of 6.2% followed by gains in Lincoln National Corporation of 4.7%, in Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. of 4.2% and in The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. of 3.3%.

Akamai Technologies, Inc. ((AKAM)), the supplier of software and services fell 0.4% or 20 cents to $44.10.

Becton, Dickinson and Company ((BDX)), the maker of disposable medical supplies fell 0.1% or 7 cents to $69.6.

Cablevision Systems Corporation ((CVC)), the cable operator rose 0.6% or 14 cents to $23.55.

Chindex International, Inc. ((CHDX)) fell 2.7% or 31 cents to $11.13 after the medical products seller reported fourth quarter revenues fell 31% to $41.3 million from $59.7 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 85% to $515,000 or 4 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $3.4 million or 22 cents per share a year ago.

East West Bancorp, Inc. ((EWBC)) gained 4.6% or 73 cents to $16.34 after the lender was upgraded to “outperform” from “market perform” at Keefe Bruyette & Woods Inc.

Human Genome Sciences ((HGSI)) rose 1.1% or 31 cents to $26.82.

JetBlue Airways Corporation ((JBLU)) increased 5.8% or 38 cents to $6.88 after the airline was upgraded to “buy” from “neutral” at Bank of America Corp.

L&L Energy, Inc. ((LLEN)) gained 8.5% or 79 cents to $10.08 after the company operating coal businesses in China is in talks to acquire at least 51% of Shunda Mining Co.

Onyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. ((ONXX)), the drugmaker increased 5.0% or $1.14 to $23.98.

Questcor Pharmaceuticals, Inc. ((QCOR)) declined 8.2% or 84 cents to $9.35 after the drugmaker announced that it has received notification from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration that the PDUFA date for Questcor''s supplemental new drug application (sNDA) to approve Acthar for the treatment of infantile spasms (IS) has been extended to September 11.

SanDisk Corporation ((SNDK)), the memory chip supplier fell 0.2% or 10 cents to $44.40.

THQ Inc. ((THQI)), the publisher of wrestling and martial arts video games fell 7.3% or 41 cents to $5.14.

Tw Telecom Inc. ((TWTC)), the provider of telephone and Internet service to businesses rose 0.8% or 15 cents to $17.01.
