Walgreen Co. led the decliners in the S&P 500 index with a loss of 3.4% followed by losses in CenterPoint Energy, Inc. of 2.4% and in Sprint Nextel Corporation of 1.5%, in PG&E Corporation of 1.1% and in Zions Bancorporation of 0.9%.
Pall Corporation led gainers in the S&P 500 index with a rise of 9.7% followed by gains in Tellabs, Inc. of 5.1%, in Rowan Companies, Inc. of 4.2% and in CB Richard Ellis Group, Inc. of 4.1%.

AEP Industries Inc. ((AEPI)) surged 11.3% or $2.58 to $25.35 after the plastic packaging company reported second quarter sales rose 18% to $215.7 million from $182.6 million a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $1.5 million or 22 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $11.6 million or $1.71 per share a year ago.
Amazon.com, Inc. ((AMZN)), the online retailer fell 2.6% or $3.18 to $118.83.
Accuray Incorporated ((ARAY)) added 4.4% or 27 cents to $6.35 after the company today announced that it has formed a strategic alliance with Siemens. The strategic alliance is expected to extend the global sales reach for Accuray''s CyberKnife(R) Robotic Radiosurgery System while creating a research-and-development alliance aimed at developing and commercializing innovative new technologies and products.
The Blackstone Group L.P ((BX)), the global asset manager rose 2.1% or 21 cents to $10.17.
Bob Evans Farms, Inc. ((BOBE)) rose 0.5% or 14 cents to $27.00 after the restaurant and sausage company said fourth quarter sales rose 2.7% to $442.7 million from $431.0 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 1.4% to $20.8 million or 68 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $21.1 million or 69 cents per share a year ago.
Ciena Corporation ((CIEN)) increased 9.0% or $1.26 to $15.10 after the communications equipment maker reported second quarter revenues rose 75.7% to $253.5 million from $144.2 million a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $90.0 million or 97 cents per diluted share compared to net loss of $503.2 million or $5.53 per share a year ago.
Eclipsys Corporation ((ECLP)) added 5.0% or 93 cents to $19.35 after the health-care information-technology provider today announced an agreement to merge in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $1.3 billion.
FSI International, Inc. ((FSII)) climbed 3.7% or 12 cents to $3.35 after the maker of equipment for chip factories announced that its underwritten public offering of 5.4 million shares of its common stock was priced at $3.05 per share.
Ferrellgas Partners, L.P ((FGP)) rose 0.4% or 10 cents to $22.75 after the propane distributor reported third quarter revenues rose 9.7% to $615.3 million from $561.1 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 12% to $28.9 million or 41 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $32.9 million or 48 cents per share a year ago.
ModusLink Global Solutions, Inc. ((MLNK)) rose 0.1% or 1 cent to $7.21. The supplier of chain business process management serving technology said third quarter revenues fell 7.7% to $213.7 million from $231.5 million a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $3.4 million or 8 cents per diluted share compared to net loss of $2.0 million or 4 cents per share a year ago.
Navistar International Corporation ((NAV)) rose 1.1% or 46 cents to $51.81. The commercial truck and engine maker reported second quarter revenues fell 2.5% to $2.74 billion from $2.81 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 150% to $30.0 million or 42 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $12.0 million or 16 cents per share a year ago.
Pall Corporation ((PLL)) added 0.3% or 11 cents to $32.34 after the supplier of filtration, separation and purification technologies said third quarter sales rose 11% to $616.0 million from $555.9 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 57.7% to $69.7 million or 58 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $44.2 million or 37 cents per share a year ago.
Piedmont Natural Gas Company, Inc. ((PNY)) advanced 1.5% or 38 cents to $25.23 after the energy services company said second quarter revenues rose 4% to $472.8 million from $455.4 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 12.5% to $46.8 million or 65 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $53.5 million or 73 cents per share a year ago.
Stewart Enterprises, Inc. ((STEI)) fell 2.6% or 15 cents to $5.43. The provider of funeral, and cemetery products said second quarter revenues rose 1.4% to $128.4 million from $126.6 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 5.6% to $8.4 million or 9 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $8.9 million or 10 cents per share a year ago.
Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. ((TTWO)) climbed 3.1% or 33 cents to $10.85 after the video game publisher said second quarter revenues rose 53.8% to $268.0 million from $174.3 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter was $16.8 million or 20 cents per diluted share compared to net loss of $10.1 million or 13 cents per share a year ago.
