Newmont Mining Corporation led gainers in the S&P 500 index with a rise of 1.8% followed by gains in Legg Mason, Inc. 0.7%, in Yahoo! Inc. of 0.5% and in Anadarko Petroleum Corporation of 0.2%.

American Capital Agency Corp ((AGNC)) decreased 7.5% or $2.08 to $25.46. The real estate investment trust announced today that it priced a public offering of 6 million shares of its common stock at a public offering price of $25.75 per share for total net proceeds of approximately $147 million.
Avago Technologies Limited ((AVGO)), the Singapore-based manufacturer of semiconductor products fell 1.2% or 26 cents to $20.46.
Blockbuster Inc. ((BBI)) plunged 24.0% or 12 cents to $0.38 after the movie-rental chain said first quarter revenues fell 14% to $939.4 million from $1.09 billion a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $67.1 million or 33 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $24.9 million or 12 cents per share a year ago.
CA, Inc. ((CA)) decreased 6.5% or $1.43 to $20.45. The business software maker said fourth quarter revenues rose 7% to $1.10 billion from $1.03 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 55.4% to $101.0 million or 19 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $65.0 million or 13 cents per share a year ago.
Cirrus Logic, Inc. ((CRUS)) declined 6.4% or 98 cents to $13.98 after the supplier of parts for Apple’s iPhone and iPad was downgraded to “buy” from “strong buy” at Needham & Co.
Darling International Inc. ((DAR)) fell 3.5% or 33 cents to $9.04. The food recycling company said first quarter sales rose 22.4% to $162.8 million from $133.0 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 139.6% to $11.5 million or 14 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $4.8 million or 6 cents per share a year ago.
Dillard''s, Inc. ((DDS)) declined 5.0% or $1.29 to $27.01 after the retailer reported first quarter sales fell 1.3% to $1.45 billion from $1.47 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 534% to $48.8 million or 68 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $7.7 million or 10 cents per share a year ago.
J. C. Penney Company, Inc. ((JCP)) fell 1.8% or 52 cents to $27.65. The department store operator chain reported first quarter sales rose 1.2% to $3.93 billion from $3.88 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 140% to $60 million or 25 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $25 million or 11 cents per share a year ago.
Netflix, Inc. ((NFLX)) decreased 5.8% or $6.42 to $103.14 after the online movie-rental company’s shares were downgraded to “hold” from “buy” at Citigroup Inc.
Nordstrom, Inc. ((JWN)) fell 4.0% or $1.74 to $41.29. The fashion specialty retailer said first quarter sales rose 16.4% to $1.99 billion from $1.71 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 43% to $116.0 million or 52 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $81.0 million or 37 cents per share a year ago.
Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation ((NTT)), the provider of fixed and mobile voice related services said fiscal year 2010 revenues fell 2% to ¥10.2 trillion from ¥10.4 trillion a year ago. Net profit in the year fell 8.6% to ¥492.3 billion compared to net profit of ¥538.7 billion a year ago.
NuStar Energy L.P ((NS)), the asphalt producer decreased 4.8% or $2.83 to $56.05.
NVIDIA Corporation ((NVDA)) decreased 3.7% or 55 cents to $14.10. The graphics chip maker said first quarter revenues rose 50.6% to $1.00 billion from $664.2 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter was $137.6 million or 23 cents per diluted share compared to net loss of $201.3 million or 37 cents per share a year ago.
Quantum Corporation ((QTM)) rose 0.3% or 1 cent to $2.84. The maker of backup and archival programs for computers announced that revenue for its fiscal year 2010 was $681 million, with $164 million in fiscal fourth quarter revenue.
Sinovac Biotech Ltd. ((SVA)) declined 7.3% or 40 cents to $5.04 after the biopharmaceutical company said first quarter sales fell 33.3% to $4.4 million from $6.6 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter was $307,000 or 1 cent per diluted share compared to net income of $25,000 or break even per share a year ago.
Strategic Hotels & Resorts, Inc. ((BEE)), the real-estate investment trust fell 7.6% or 40 cents to $4.80.
