CareFusion Corporation led gainers in the S&P 500 index with a rise of 8.0% followed by gains in Hospira, Inc 3.5%, in McKesson Corporation of 2.8% and in Merck & Co., Inc 2.2%.

Alliant Energy Corporation ((LNT)) fell 2.3% or 81 cents to $33.72 after the provider of regulated electricity and natural gas services reported first quarter revenues fell 6% to $891.3 million from $949.9 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 40% to $43.4 million or 39 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $72.6 million or 66 cents per share a year ago.

Amerisafe, Inc ((AMSF)) increased 2.9% or 51 cents to $17.54 after the specialty provider of workers compensation insurance said first quarter revenues fell 17% to $64.4 million from $77.5 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 2% to $11.3 million or 58 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $11.1 million or 54 cents per share a year ago.

Array BioPharma Inc. ((ARRY)) rose 1.3% or 5 cents to $3.76 after the biopharmaceutical company said third quarter sales rose 206.7% to $18.4 million from $6.0 million a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $15.2 million or 30 cents per diluted share compared to net loss of $29.6 million or 62 cents per share a year ago.

Avis Budget Group, Inc ((CAR)) fell 0.6% or 9 cents to $14.99 after the car rental company said first quarter revenues fell 3.3% to $1.15 billion from $1.19 billion a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $38 million or 37 cents per diluted share compared to net loss of $49 million or 48 cents per share a year ago.

Cameco Corporation ((CCJ)) fell 1.5% or 39 cents to $24.19 after the uranium producer reported first quarter sales fell 1.6% to $485 million from $493 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 73% to $142 million or 36 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $82 million or 22 cents per share a year ago.

Cognizant Technology Solutions Corporation ((CTSH)) added 3.6% or $1.93 to $53.60 after the provider of custom information technology consulting and technology services reported first quarter revenues rose 28.6% to $959.7 million from $745.9 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 34% to $151.5 million or 49 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $113.1 million or 38 cents per share a year ago.

CVR Energy, Inc ((CVI)) decreased 4.3% or 37 cents to $8.10 an oil refiner said first quarter sales rose 47% to $894.5 million from $609.4 million a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $12.4 million or 14 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $30.7 million or 36 cents per share a year ago.

CVS Caremark Corporation ((CVS)) fell 1.3% or 51 cents to $36.65 after the health care provider reported first quarter revenues rose 1.5% to $23.76 billion from $23.4 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 4.5% to $771 million or 55 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $738 million or 50 cents per share a year ago.

DineEquity, Inc ((DIN)) rose 0.4% or 19 cents to $42.69 after the operator of Applebee’s and International House of Pancakes restaurants reported IHOP''s domestic system-wide same-restaurant sales decreased 0.4% and Applebee''s domestic system-wide same-restaurant decreased 2.7% compared to the same periods in 2009.

Douglas Emmett, Inc ((DEI)) rose 2.8% or 47 cents to $17.21 after the real estate investment trust said first quarter revenues fell 9% to $137.8 million from $151.4 million a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $8.3 million or 7 cents per diluted share compared to net loss of $1.9 million or 2 cents per share a year ago.

Emerson Electric Co ((EMR)) fell 5.6% or $2.83 to $50.79 after the technology company reported second quarter sales rose 1% to $5.14 billion from $5.09 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 8.5% to $405 million or 53 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $373 million or 49 cents per share a year ago.

EOG Resources, Inc ((EOG)) dropped 1.6% or $1.92 to $111.64 after the oil and natural gas producer said first quarter revenues rose 18% to $1.37 billion from $1.16 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 25.6% to $118.0 million or 46 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $158.7 million or 63 cents per share a year ago.

FMC Corporation ((FMC)) rose 1.0% or 66 cents to $64.30 after the chemical company said first quarter sales rose 9.5% to $756.5 million from $690.5 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 12% to $77.4 million or $1.06 per diluted share compared to net income of $69.1 million or 94 cents per share a year ago.

Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc ((FDP)) decreased 3.3% or 73 cents to $20.91 after the fruit and vegetable producer reported first quarter sales rose 7% to $943.1 million from $879.7 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 4% to $36.2 million or 57 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $34.9 million or 55 cents per share a year ago.

LeapFrog Enterprises Inc ((LF)) plunged 14.1% or $1.01 to $6.11 after the maker of LeapPad electronic children’s books posted first quarter net loss per share was 37 cents a diluted share, an improvement of 6 cents per share or 14%.

Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc ((MMC)) fell 1.4% or 35 cents to $24.22 after the insurance broker and consulting company reported first quarter sales rose 8% to $2.8 billion from $2.6 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 41% to $248 million or 45 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $176 million or 33 cents per share a year ago.

MasterCard Incorporated ((MA)) rose 1.1% or $2.99 to $253.73 after the payment processor reported first quarter sales rose 13% to $1.31 billion from $1.16 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 24% to $455 million or $3.46 per diluted share compared to net income of $367 million or $2.80 per share a year ago.

McKesson Corporation ((MCK)) added 3.4% or $2.25 to $67.12 after the pharmaceutical distributor said the board of directors authorized an additional share repurchase of $1 billion, bringing the total authorization to more than $1.5 billion.

Merck & Co, Inc ((MRK)) added 2.0% or 73 cents to $36.00 after the drugmaker reported first quarter sales rose 112% to $11.42 billion from $5.39 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 79% to $298.8 million or 9 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $1.43 billion or 67 cents per share a year ago.

NetSuite Inc ((N)) slipped 7.2% or $1.06 to $13.49 after the business software company said first quarter sales rose 5.5% to $43.9 million from $41.6 million a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $7.1 million or 11 cents per diluted share compared to net loss of $3.7 million or 6 cents per share a year ago.

Nutrisystem, Inc ((NTRI)) surged 9.8% or $1.83 to $20.33 after the company, which sells prepared meals to help clients lose weight reported first quarter profit of 15 cents a share compared to 29 cents a year ago.

NYSE Euronext ((NYX)) fell 1.0% or 35 cents to $32.57 after the operator of financial markets and provider of trading strategies reported first quarter revenues fell 5% to $1.08 billion from $1.14 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 25% to $130 million or 50 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $104 million or 40 cents per share a year ago.

Overseas Shipholding Group, Inc ((OSG)) decreased 7.5% or $3.99 to $491.4 after the bulk shipping company reported first quarter sales fell 17% to $269.8 million from $324.8 million a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $9.4 million or 34 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $121.8 million or $4.53 per share a year ago.

Pfizer Inc ((PFE)) rose 1.8% or 32 cents to $17.23 after the drugmaker reported first quarter sales rose 54% to $16.75 billion from $10.87 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 25.6% to $2.03 billion or 25 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $2.73 billion or 40 cents per share a year ago.

Powerwave Technologies, Inc ((PWAV)) dropped 6.7% or 12 cents to $1.67 after the maker of wireless communications products reported first quarter net loss of $7.1 million or basic loss per share of 5 cents.

Principal Financial Group, Inc ((PFG)) added 3.5% or $1.04 to $30.26 after the insurer and asset manager said first quarter revenues rose 3% to $2.26 billion from $2.19 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 69% to $190.8 million or 59 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $112.8 million or 43 cents per share a year ago.

Qiagen N.V. ((QGEN)) rose 1.1% or 27 cents to $23.12 after the genetic-testing specialist said first quarter sales rose 19.6% to $264.4 million from $221.0 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 33.6% to $33.0 million or 14 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $24.7 million or 12 cents per share a year ago.

Radian Group Inc ((RDN)) plunged 9.5% or $1.39 to $13.24 after the mortgage insurer said its first quarter loss widened to $310.4 million and announced a public offering of up to $550 million of common stock.

Rogers Corporation ((ROG)) gained 3.5% or $1.19 to $34.66 after the maker of parts for electronics and aerospace manufacturers said first quarter sales rose 28% to $83.9 million from $65.5 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter was $6.9 million or 43 cents per diluted share compared to net loss of $8.7 million or 56 cents per share a year ago.

Spectra Energy Corp ((SE)) fell 1.9% or 46 cents to $23.28 after the natural gas pipeline operator reported first quarter sales rose 7% to $1.48 billion from $1.38 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 20% to $358 million or 55 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $298 million or 47 cents per share a year ago.

Sempra Energy ((SRE)) fell 1.8% or 95 cents to $49.42 an energy services company reported first quarter sales rose 20% to $2.53 billion from $2.11 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 66.4% to $106 million or 42 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $316 million or $1.29 per share a year ago.

Technitrol, Inc ((TNL)) plunged 11.2% or 63 cents to $4.98 after the maker of electronic components said first quarter loss narrows on lower expenses.

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Limited ((TEVA)) fell 0.1% or 4 cents to $59.96 after the maker of generic drugs reported first quarter sales rose 16% to $3.65 billion from $3.15 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 58% to $713 million or 79 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $451 million or 51 cents per share a year ago.

UBS AG ((UBS)) fell 4.8% or 76 cents to $14.89 after the bank said first quarter net interest income fell 5% to CHF1.8 billion from CHF1.9 billion a year ago.
