Nasdaq index extended gains for the second day and reached a new intra-day 15-year high on strong quarterly results from Amazon, Google and Microsoft. Comcast abandoned its proposed $45 billion merger with Time Warner Cable after regulators raised competition issues.

European markets turned volatile and euro zone ministers concluded yet another meeting with Greece with no progress on hand. Air Liquide revenues climbed 7%. AstraZeneca profit soared 9%. HSBC plans to relocate headquarter to Hong Kong. Renault sales soared 14%. Reckitt Benckiser sales rose 1%.

Nikkei in Tokyo closed lower on Friday but gained 1.9% in the week when the index closed above for the first time in 15 years. Exedy Corp said fiscal year net declined 23%. Mitsubishi Motors estimated first-half sales to decline 1.5%. Monex Group fiscal year net plunged 67%.

European markets traded lower after economic activities were deemed to be slowing in a private survey. Ericsson profit declined 14%. Novartis profit plunged 6% to $2.3 billion on 7% decrease in revenues. WPP revenues in the first-quarter climbed 8%.

With corporate earnings in focus, Nikkei index closed above 20,000 for the second day in a row after fifteen years. CyberAgent said second-quarter revenues rose 29%. JFE Holdings said annual net rose 36%. JSR Corp said net gained 19% on nearly flat revenues.
