The Australian benchmark index increased 31% in the year with a gain of 0.8% on the last day of trading. The Australian dollar advanced after the Reserve Bank of Australia said that bank lending increased 0.1% in November. For the year the Australian dollar is up 28% against the dollar.

Sensex Surges 81% in India; Sustained FDI Flows

Mumbai stocks close up on the last day of trading surge 80% for the year but the Sensex index is still below its highs of 2007. Foreign investors continue to pour capital in India stocks with flows in the year expected to reach $14 billion, a sharp rise from $1 billion at the start of the decade.

India Budget Deficit Worries; Stocks Fall

Finance Minister Mukherjee said India cannot sustain its current high fiscal deficit and need to strike a balance between growth and inflation. Budget deficit is expected to surge to record 16-year high. Stocks decline after gaining 5% in four days in a row.

China is expected to a sharp increase in inflation in December as energy and commodities prices rise. China estimated $16 billion of international inflows in November that may be contributing to the asset price inflation.

Japan Targets 2% Real Economic Growth

Japan targets 3% nominal economic growth through 2020 and 2% real growth on higher spending for green technology, tourism and education. Number of companies delist from Tokyo Stock Exchange and Osaka Securities Exchange increase to 160 from 82 a year ago.

Australian stocks edged lower tracking lower commodities prices in a subdued trading. The Australian dollar declined 0.5% to 89.06 U.S. cents. The coal seam gas explorer Westside agreed to buy Anglo American stake in Dawson Seamgas. New Zealand lending rises 2.8% in November.

U.S. Treasury $32 Billion 7-Year Bond Offering

U.S. stocks in a volatile trading closed higher on light volume. The benchmark indexes in U.S. and Europe are set to close the year with more than 22% gains. The U.S. Treasury auction of $32 billion of seven year bonds came in at 3.345% yield.

Indexes in Germany, France Down

European markets declined as most indexes in the region have surged between 20% and 25%. The nuclear reactor maker Areva SA is in discussion with California based energy group to build two plants. Euromedis Groupe first quarter sales increased 11%.

UK Stocks, Pound Edge Lower

China Gold Purchase; China CNR IPO

Stocks in Shanghai and Hong Kong gained on the optimism about the economy. Commodities and natural resource related stocks increased. China added 454 tons of gold in the current year, the largest purchase by any nation. China CNR Corp rose 2.3% in its first day of trading.
