Seagate Technology surged on the talks that the company may go private. General Electric declined after quarterly revenues declined 5%. Google soared 10% after it reported higher than expected adjusted earnings. Gannett Co. declined after quarterly revenues trailed market estimates.

U.S. stocks gained after CPI rose 0.1% and retail sales climbed 0.6% in September. U.S. Fed Chairman Bernanke warned prolonged high unemployment would pose a risk to economic recovery. Motorola and Nokia inked 4G licensing agreement.

Stocks in Shanghai soared more than 3% due to record FDI and soared more than 9% in the week. August trade surplus with U.S. reached a record $28 billion. Both property prices and transaction volumes rose in September and regulatory curbs fail to stem the price increase.

In Tokyo trading, stocks remained volatile and dropped after surging the most in the month on Thursday. The yen rose and investors were focused on earnings season beginning next week. Mizuho Financial booked a loss in its preferred shares for Merrill Lynch holding as it converts to Bank of America shares.

U.S. stocks traded sideways after mixed U.S. economic data and trade deficit widened by 8.8%. Banks declined on the worries that a new round of investigation may emerge after the recent foreclosure halts in several states. Home seizures by banks increased 4% in September to more than 100,000.

German Growth Outlook Revised Higher; Syngenta Soars 3%

The European indexes traded mixed and several institutes raised German growth outlook. The ECB noted euro area economic growth is estimated to slow in the second-half. Hungary industrial output grew in August. Dutch retail sales growth declined in August.

The benchmark index in Mumbai declined 0.9% and gave back nearly half the gains of yesterday. The rupee held firm and outsourcing companies rose ahead of earnings from Infosys Technology. LIC Housing Finance surged after it reported 36% increase in earnings.

U.S. stocks traded sideways after weekly jobless claims rose 13,000 to 462,000 and PPI edged higher and trade deficit widened more than anticipated in September. AOL and private equity firms contemplating bid for Yahoo. Tesla signed $60 million deal with Toyota to develop electric powertrain system.

Hong Kong Index Surges 1.7%; Economy Expands 7.2%
