United Airlines Holdings Inc
- United Airlines rose 7.5% to $68.90 after the company announced a stock repurchase plan as part of its quarterly earnings update.
The airline said it plans to buyback up to $1.5 billion of its stock and warrants originally issued to the U.S. Treasury, the first such purchase since before the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the quarter, the company repurchased in the open market just over 2 million shares of its common stock in connection with the exercise of roughly 6.4 million warrants issued to the U.S. Treasury under the CARES Act and Payroll Support Program.
The company repurchased shares at an average price of $39.99.
The repurchase of these shares eliminated the dilution associated with the warrants exercised and are separate from the new stock repurchase plan of $1.5 billion.
Revenue in the third quarter increased 2.5% to $14.8 billion from $14.5 billion, net income declined 15.1% to $965 million, and diluted earnings per share dropped to $2.90 from $3.42 a year ago.
Oct 16, 2024 - Airline stocks were higher after United Airlines reported strong fourth quarter results, but the company forecasted a loss in the first quarter after the aviation regulator ordered the grounding of 737 Max 9 planes for emergency inspection following the Alaska Airlines midair door incident.
Revenue in the fourth quarter increased 9.9% to $13.6 billion from $12.4 billion, net income declined 28.8% to $600 million from $843 million, and diluted earnings per share dropped to $1.81 from $2.55 a year ago.
For the full-year 2023, revenue increased 19.5% to $53.7 billion, net income soared nearly four-fold to $2.6 billion, and diluted earnings per share advanced to $7.89 from $2.23 a year ago.
The airline estimated a loss in the first quarter between 85 cents and 35 cents and revenue per available seat mile to be flat from the previous year.
United Airlines jumped 6% to $40.97.
American Airlines rose 3% to $14.02, and Delta Air Lines advanced 2.4% to $37.85 after United reported strong quarterly results.
Jan 23, 2024 - United Airlines Holdings Inc dropped 5.1% to $37.65 after the international airline forecasted weak performance in the current quarter largely because of expensive fuel.
Revenue in the Atlantic region was up 15% from a year ago, and 70% compared to the quarter in 2019. Pacific revenue exceeded third-quarter 2019 levels despite capacity remaining 24% below third-quarter 2019, said the company in an update to investors.
The company also added profits in the Atlantic and Pacific regions were at record highs and domestic profits were the second-highest
Revenue in the third quarter rose 12.5% to $14.5 billion from $12.9 billion and net income advanced 20% to $1.1 billion from $942 million and diluted earnings per share rose to $3.42 from $2.86 a year ago.
Oct 18, 2023 - United Airlines Holdings Inc said revenue in the first quarter soared 51% to $11.4 billion from $7.5 billion after capacity increased 23.4% from a year ago.
Net loss in the quarter shrank to $194 million from $1.38 billion and diluted loss per share declined to 59 cents from $4.24 a year ago. Total revenue per available seat mile increased 22.5% and cost per available seat mile rose 4.0%.
Average fuel price per gallon was $3.33 in the first quarter, lower than the $3.54 price in the fourth quarter and higher than the $2.88 price per gallon in the quarter a year ago.
